Is the third digit all that significant?

    • Anonymous

For those of us with opposable thumbs, it is.

  2. Wes

    Haha! Funny, Jon.

  3. Well, you have to realize that he’s constantly calculating every ERA, BA, OBP, BABIP, and WHIP in his head while the game proceeds. Even his mighty brain can contain only so many numbers.

  4. Jack Dawkins

Its like Pi, just how far do you need to go in the greater scheme of things?

  5. If Vin starts using Altuve as a measurement then we’re getting somewhere. @howmanyaltuves

The Manny Ramirez comeback version 2.0 has ended.

My family will be relieved (attending A’s vs. Pods Sat afternoon to plumb the meaning of the term “exercise in futilty” and don’t need another distraction)

  7. Anonymous

He is the only person I know who can compare Pujols to DiMaggio because he has seen both of them :)

  8. Anonymous

I loved his comment about hitters getting hits with two strikes is not the baseball he knows.

  9. foul tip

In a mlb.com piece on Dempster and the supposedly good chance he’ll be traded, writer first says he could be a difference maker for the Orioles.

Then lists the Dodgers and Rangers among others who could use him.  What?  Why would the Dodgers need pitching?  Isn’t hitting kinda the problem?  Earth to writer….

Maybe now that the perception is the Dodgers have money, which makes any player anywhere a potential Dodger.

If so, that’s awfully lazy. Not that any writer with a deadline ever would take the easy way out or anything.

    •  or because Lilly may not pitch for a while. And we can always use pitching.

    • bcmaiden

They were quoting Colletti who said he was looking for a starter, lefty reliever, and a bat. I agree with you and others. Our weakness is offense not pitching. We need bats preferably with power.

  10. Anonymous

Should be a good pitchers duel today. Sale, the best ERA in the AL vs Kershaw, who should have the best in the NL :)

    • KT

yea right ….maybe on Sale’s part…Dunn with the 2 run bomb right away

  11. Christopher Staaf

Wow, Dunn owns Kershaw. Who knew?

  12. Jack Dawkins

The 1st inning Kerhaw of yore is back.

  13. Anonymous

    Ouch

  14. Anonymous

This is an intensely disappointing beginning. Kershaw appears to be increasingly gopher-prone.

  15. KT

WBB is huff going on the DL a good thing or bad

    • Anonymous

For the Gnats it’s good. They don’t have anybody better as a DH, but there’s no temptation to play him in the field.

      • KT

I wasn’t sure how he was hitting lately…I know he’s always been a liability in the field especially outfield

  16. KT

Good Eye Dee way to get on

  17. Anonymous

I don’t get to see him day in and day out like most of you do, is Kershaw looking OK? I don’t mean Cy Young Ok, but OK within himself

    • KT

I think something is wrong with him or his pitch selection

      • Anonymous

I know Kershaw can shake him off, but does that mean we can blame Ellis then ;)

        • KT

It was said he’ fell in love with his outpitch from last year the slider and everyone is laying off it this year

    • Anonymous

To my eye, it looks like lapses in concentration against guys who shouldn’t even touch him. I know Dunn’s hit him well, but on an 0-2 pitch?

  18. KT

    NICE HIT ELIAN!!!!!

    • KT

just after vinny was talking about how bad they were against Sale

    • Christopher Staaf

Wow…is there anyone who runs the bases faster than Dee right now?

  19. Anonymous

I didn’t necessarily expect Dunn to start giving back so quickly.

  20. Anonymous

Maybe we should be chanting MVP for Herreria, he has been a revelation this year

  21. Anonymous

More stellar work from AJ there.

  22. KT

    Good Eye Jerry

  23. Adam Luther

    Dunn is 8 for 12 against Kershaw with 4 hr’s and 8 RBI’s,

    • KT

      and two doubles

    • Christopher Staaf

And I thought like most left handed hitters, Kid K would own Dunn.

  24. KT

    let’s go DP

  25. KT

    Nice Catch Dee!!

  26. KT

terrible bunt by Clayton…lucky it didn’t hurt us

  27. Anonymous

    Runners left on base, yuck

  28. Christopher Staaf

Doesn’t look good for us today.

    • Anonymous

Much too early to say that.

      • KT

but lately we haven’t scored in bunches and with the # of LOB piling up makes a person lose a little of faith

        • Christopher Staaf

KT read my mind perfectly. That and Mr. Scully saying when the White Sox score 3 or more runs for Sale, they are 7-0. Kid K either is hurting worse than he’s letting on or he just doesn’t have it tonight.

  29. Anonymous

That foot problem must be worse than we thought

  30. Anonymous

That might be the worst AB AJ’s had this year.

  31. KT

    What was that Dee

  32. Anonymous

Way too many mistakes tonight. Not looking good.

  33. bcmaiden

I am so ticked at the Loney benching. I guess Donnie really thinks bad defense doesn’t lose games. BTW Alexei Ramirez kills the Dodgers, but he can’t hit vs anyone else. Kid K says that his foot is okay. Either he is lying or he is having another bad outing.

  34. bcmaiden

Seems we play the White Sox every year since interleague and they own us. The whole interleague schedule is so unbalanced it’s not fair.

    • Anonymous

We lose to all AL teams, we’d probably have trouble with the Royals and Twins this year.

    • Christopher Staaf

I just checked. 2011, 2010, 2008…we lost 2 of 3 each time. I wonder why the league makes the White Sox play us so often (or vice versa).

  35. KT

    Get Clayton checked out Please

  36. KT

    ok we’re storming back now

    Come on Elian

  37. bcmaiden

This game is ovah. When I saw Sale pitching I knew we would lose. Isn’t he like a prime ROY/Cy candidate this year? I also cringe when we have face a LH. Here come the Giants.

            You old salt.

          • KT

got to Guam in late “91…in ’92 6 typhoon’s either hit the island directly or the outer winds did….many cleanup parties

  39. Christopher Staaf

Tonight might not be our night but tomorrow is Saturday and we are pretty good on Saturday.

  40. Anonymous

This is shaping up to be a throw-away game.
I really do not like interleague play.
When we play Chicago, give me the Cubs fercryinoutloud.
These AL teams should only be allowed to set foot on the NL fields of play during the WS.

  41. Anonymous

You swing hard enough, often enough, and sooner or later you’ll make contact.

  42. Anonymous

    Tying run at the plate!

  43. KT

If we ever need a hit from you Tony…now is the time

    • Anonymous

      And he strikes out.

      • Christopher Staaf

Showing why he’s a role player, not an everyday starter. Kemp can’t get healthy fast enough.

  44. Anonymous

Gwynn has been pretty awful lately, striking out a lot. Just a dribbler to second would have been a big help.

    • bcmaiden

His AVG has dropped like 25 points. I don’t think he’s used to playing every day and really isn’t suited for it like Chris said.

  45. KT

    Nice IDJ jr!!

  46. Anonymous

    Great AB by IDJ.

  47. Anonymous

    Wow Dee, that was terrible

  48. KT

OMG   What type of bunt was that?

    • Christopher Staaf

      Not a good one.

    • Anonymous

An ugly one, but he almost got a double.

      • Anonymous

Why was he even trying to bunt?  Remember he got a hit over the drawn in infield.

        • KT

Yea looking back I think his attempt was to put it over the infielders heads

  49. Anonymous

Great performance by the Sale kid, nice lefty.

    • Anonymous

      Que salga ya!

      • Anonymous

I’m sure Herrera was saying that after he almost broke his ankles on that off-speed pitch.

  50. Anonymous

All that was missing was Jr getting doubled.

  51. KT

    HERRERA!!!!!

  52. Anonymous

Let him play, let him play!!!!!

  53. Anonymous

    Herrera!

  54. Anonymous

    Wooooo-Hooooo! I knew writing “throw-away game” would work !

  55. maybe they should let guys stay in the minors awhile!

  56. Anonymous

Okay there is no way that we should be tied at 5 right now. Herrera is ridiculous.

    • Anonymous

Can he play every day, please Don, please ;)

  57. KT

     Kershaw off the hook…now winning

  58. Anonymous

    Rivera!

  59. Christopher Staaf

Thank you for proving me wrong, baby!!

    • Anonymous

Please recall my 8:09 response to your despair.

  60. Anonymous

As Vin says, Kid could win.  Let’s go!

It’s like the Little League chant: “Everybody hits, everybody hits!”

  62. Anonymous

    Gnat attack!

    • Anonymous

That’s an insult to insects. The only true Gnats play in SF.

  63. Anonymous

How can Herrera sit at any time? The guy’s amazing!

  64. bcmaiden

Sweet Baby Elian. I wish he could play SS, send down Dee when Ellis comes back.

    • Christopher Staaf

I bet he could, just not every day. Elian Herrera= super sub!

    • Yah or maybe they can pick up a SS. Just a real solid glove..

  65. Anonymous

Aw man Dre. Get em next time.

  66. bcmaiden

Holy moly, Coffey has been coming into high leverage innings. Can we trust him?

    • Anonymous

      for 1 innings anyway

    • Christopher Staaf

For today, yes. Same goes for Elbert today. I still want a LOOGY on the level of Javier Lopez on the Dodgers by July 31 though.

  67. Anonymous

Rivera racing Dunn to the bag, slowest race ever

    • Christopher Staaf

So who wins, tortoise or the snail??

  68. Anonymous

3 pitchers to get 3 batters, lol

    • Christopher Staaf

Somewhere Tony La Russa is smiling.

    • KT

Belli will probably continue on in the 8th though

  69. Christopher Staaf

Ronald’s got some new glasses. I didn’t know he needed them.

    • Anonymous

I noticed something strange when he ran in from the pen.  I didn’t see the at-bat so I didn’t see his face.  Does it improve his appearance?

  70. bcmaiden

These guys coming out of the White Sox pen have microscopic ERA’s.

  71. Man, I’m glad I missed the earlier comments. Incredible negativity for a team that has the Dodgers’ record.

    • Anonymous

Well we have lost 6 of 7 home games.  Our offense has been sputtering.  Our ace didn’t pitch very well.  And after finally going ahead we give up the lead.  Its a maddening game!

But this one isn’t over yet.

  72. Anonymous

Maybe Beli should take off those glasses :(

  73. Anonymous

We should stop giving up home runs

  74. KT

well no more win for Clayton

  75. bcmaiden

I wonder why Donnie doesn’t play IDJ @2nd vs LH, Elian in CF (Jr. needs time off), and Hairston in LF.

  76. bcmaiden

One run is nothing when you have a lineup full of power.

    • Anonymous

Nor are four runs, when you have a lineup full of small insects.

  77. Anonymous

    Bench gwynn Donnie

    • Anonymous

      He’s been truly awful lately.

      • Christopher Staaf

I bet he will have the rest of the weekend off with Herrera taking CF for both games.

  78. KT

    high strike

    Come on Elian

  79. Anonymous

Loney standing next to Konerko at first. (A big what if thought)

  80. KT

    Nice we’ll take it

    Good base running by Herrera

  81. Christopher Staaf

What a break! Thornton gives us one.

  82. KT

    Come on Bobby

  83. Anonymous

Hey pitcher how about picking up the ball!!!!

  84. Anonymous

    A 1-2-3 inning leaves Dunn in the on-deck circle….

  85. Anonymous

    One.

  86. Anonymous

I think Kenley caught a break there.

    • Anonymous

FX showed it as a strike.

      • Anonymous

It looked as much as a strike as the one to Gwynn on Wednesday night.

        • Anonymous

Agreed. I didn’t think either one was a strike.

  87. Anonymous

    Two.

  88. Anonymous

    Three.

  89. Anonymous

    Three

  90. bcmaiden

    Yessssssssss, helluva come back.

  91. Christopher Staaf

Whew! That was a good win. Needed that after the Angels series. See you all tomorrow and let’s hope Bills keeps it going!

  92. KT

Nice Come from behind win…I had my doubts earlier but the boys pulled it out

  93. Anonymous

    Hard fought victory!
    I love it :)

  94. Anonymous

    What a comeback!

  95. Anonymous

    Geronimo has a change now?

  96. Anonymous

    Bam. Zap. Zowie. Pow.
    We fought for that win.

  97. Anonymous

    Kenley’s back.

In the interests of consistency, I will restate that I detest interleague play, whether it’s a win or a loss.

    • KT

      me too…hate it

      • Anonymous

Me three – win or lose – it’s a bad idea that gets worse every year.
