What happens when three old friends in crisis fall into an unexpected love triangle? In The Catch, Maya, Henry and Daniel embark upon an emotional journey that forces them to confront unresolved pain, present-day traumas and powerful desires, leading them to question the very meaning of love and fulfillment. The Catch tells a tale of ordinary people seeking the extraordinary – or, if that’s asking too much, some damn peace of mind.

I am lamenting Mattingly (who got the job).
KT
Time to get that one back and more
KT

Hello, Cliff Lee.
KT
Let’s go Gonzo
KT
good eye Gonzo
Come on Hanley
KT
Hanley!!!!
Anonymous
Hello, hello, hello!
KT
come on Matty your turn
KT
Nice inning…way to win it
Anonymous
That HR call from Vin gave me chills. She is gone!
Anonymous
Lee better this season against RHH than LHH; last year he gave up lots of HRs to RHH but his BAA and OBP better against RHH than against LHH but there were so many HRs that nothing else really matters; 2 years ago he crushed LHH
KT
Dodgers PR @DodgersPR 4m
Ramirez is batting .487 (18-for-37) with five home runs and 14 RBI during his 11 game hitting streak
Anonymous
In about 25 PA less than Puig, he is closing in on him with 6 dingers and OPS.
KT
He’s been hotter than Puig…line drives everywhere…it was just that he was hitting them at people in the beginning
Anonymous
That’s the scary part.
Jack Dawkins
If it wasnt for Puig mania, Hanley would be the big story of the last 2 weeks.
KT
much better inning…put up another crooked number
Jack Dawkins
Hanley’s HR landed where the Pre and post game show hosts sit in Center field. Been a long time since ive seen one land that far.
KT
then bounced off the lower cameras/lights and then nothing but net as the commercial went
KT
Can we just walk him from now on
Jack Dawkins
HBP, as Drysdale said, why throw 4 when 1 will do?
KT
that is good I had to borrow it
Anonymous
It’s always fun watching CB Bucknor try to figure out the strike zone. AGon has had a few gifts tonight…. Dale Scott just evened things out however.
Anonymous
…so would you rather have Juan Pierre in your lineup, or a Juan Pierre your GM thinks still has upside? #benrevere
Jack Dawkins
They are saying 439′ for Hanley’s blast.

Cliff Lee: June 27, 2002: Traded by the Montreal Expos with Brandon Phillips, Grady Sizemore and Lee Stevens to the Cleveland Indians for Bartolo Colon and Tim Drew.

keep making trades like that and you might have to move to a new city
KT
he stepped on the ball and it went in the stands
Anonymous
I don’t mind that ruling, but it sure seems like they should award him third in that.
KT
those were my thoughts also…he had the double and should have been awarded the extra base
Anonymous
If he was on his way to second and somebody threw it into the dugout he would get third. How is this any different?
KT
no difference…they blew the call
Anonymous
agree; but might be some provision in the rule book that makes it a double
Anonymous
Normally I would try to figure out why I’m wrong, but ever since I witnessed a crew allow back to back pitching changes, totally oblivious to that rule, I don’t assume anything.
KT
no you were right to assume he should have been awarded third
Anonymous
I believe in the NHL the ref has to decide if it was intentional when the puck goes into the stands; please correct me if I’m wrong
KT
I think so also

Phillies announcers pronounce their pitching coach Du’-bee, Vin, Du-Bee’
I have always read that Vin makes sure he pronounces names correctly yet it seems he must be wrong on this one.

Too bad Hanley and Puig can’t be cloned!

what about Babe Ruth?
Anonymous
Well, it is Cliff Lee.
Anonymous
I’ll give the benefit of the doubt.
Anonymous
Slow, but nimble.
Anonymous
Cliff Lee has turned out to be better vs. right-handed batters than left . . . how will Donnie ever know if the same is true with Paco?
Still, I hope his strategy works out.
Anonymous
This sure would stack up nicely for Kenley in the 9th if Belli can get these two quick outs…
Anonymous
Nice to see Kenley now, no?

Ugghh.
KT
Paco isn’t a Loogy…why take him out Donnie
KT
turn two

C’mon, old Belli . . . be the new Belli of late!

not only that but Delmon Young hitting RHP slightly better than LHP ad was 1 for 1 against Belisario.
However, team will not win without Belisario pitching well so he has to be used but maybe not in this situation.

Thanks for backing up my gut feeling with stats.

Alan Roth, the late Dodgers statistician, had numbers like those at his fingertips.

rule 6.09(g) says: Any bounding fair ball is deflected by the fielder into the stands,
or over or under a fence on fair or foul territory, in which case the
batter and all runners shall be entitled to advance two bases
.
If you look at the whole of rule 6 09, I think you will agree this does not mean 2 bases from where the batter is but 2 bases from where the batter and the other possible players started. I am not 100% sure but pretty sure esp. after what we saw in the game.
Anonymous
Hey, thanks for that.
Anonymous
Huh… in that case anytime a Revere-ish speedy guy hits one down the line, just have your OFer kick it into the stands to stop a triple.
Anonymous
not that easy to kick a ball esp. if moving into the stands; you risk turning a triple into an inside the park HR
Anonymous
So, I guess you could say that it all worked out, in that Kenley is facing the top of the order.
KT
defense letting him down
Anonymous
Well, that didn’t work out.
KT
need a k here or a grounder to SS
Anonymous
Didn’t Kenley learn about sleeping on the mound last year?

But still , offense and defense have failed in this game.

I’m at the mercy of Steiner’s descriptions.
Jack Dawkins
Keystone Kops time.
Anonymous
Two outfield errors in the same inning, and nearly a bizarre inside-the-park homer.
Anonymous
I thought the error should have been on AJ.
no error on triple as yet
KT
throw way up the line
Anonymous
I saw it but AJ muffed it
Anonymous
Not once, but twice.
Anonymous
I guess the thinking is if the throw had not been so far up the line, the runner on 3rd would have stayed put.
Anonymous
The runner would have stayed put if AJ had caught it.
Anonymous
Dre closed his mitt like he thought he had it, but seemed uncertain of the wall, which he would be a bit unfamiliar with at this point. Hard to call it an error.
Anonymous
I agree
Anonymous
That’s one unhappy outfield.
Jack Dawkins
Is Shumaker available to pitch the 10th?
KT
Time for a walk off
Anonymous
This reliever, De Fratus, not one of their best ones.
Anonymous
don’t want to jinx the Dodgers but Phillies have only one good reliever
Anonymous
He is just playing T-ball at this point.
Anonymous
Kemp is due.
KT
He throws hard…Hanley hits it hard
Anonymous
Why wouldn’t AJ talk to Kenley? Repeatedly. Odd dynamic there
Anonymous
Was curious what that was about also.
Anonymous
Wow. Kemp 0-3 with 3 Ks and a 2 out E in the 9th to allow the tying run to score. Not pretty.
Anonymous
Although if you ask me, that was AJ’s error.
Anonymous
AJ could’ve helped him, but that throw was 20 feet offline.
Anonymous
But the run only scored because AJ misplayed it.
Anonymous
Same thing as a bad throw to first – the first basemen can dig it and help the guy out, but if he can’t it’s all on the throw. It isn’t AJ’s fault he had to run twenty feet to his right, try to slide block it and corral the ball. E on Kemp.
Anonymous
AJ there in plenty of time, all he had to do was block it then pick it up. It was an easy play. Run scored because of AJ not Kemp
KT
he would have scored on the triple anyway and we won so mute point…here we come Gnats
Anonymous
Agree to disagree. I saw it differently.
Anonymous
don’t mean to be rude but if you watch it on gameday I think you will change your mind.
As Hendley says above nice we are arguing about a play that didn’t effect the outcome.
Anonymous
Fair enough. Potato, potato.
Anonymous
inconsistent strike zone tonight, but Kemp doesn’t look good tonight.

Almost need Skippy for CF.

This is the kind of game we were losing earlier this year. We’ve now won 7 of 8 and are only 5 games out of first and 1 behind the Giants.
Anonymous
We lost every which way, usually with little drama.
Jack Dawkins
Looks like Hanley ran through the stop sign, and as he did, Wallach waved him in.
KT
rewound…Wallach waving all the way
Anonymous
He threw up the stop sign way too late, and it was the stop sign of a man who knew he was throwing up the stop sign way too late.
Anonymous
Whoosh! I can breathe again!
Anonymous
Redemption for AJ . . . and the team as a whole! Nice comeback after the potentially crushing top of the 9th!
Puig + Hanley = a winning team.
Anonymous
Lose by 15 last night, win by 1 tonight . . . with a minimal offensive output.
They even out.
But in the scheme of things, I think this means far more . . . last night was a done-deal quickly, this was another nailbiter — and the Blue prevailed!
Anonymous
June BA up to right now
SVS 161
AJ Ellis 176

Wow earlier in the year we would have found a way to lose this one…5 games back and gaining…the rest of the NL West are hearing our footsteps…Watch out
Anonymous
Its fun to be arguing over something immaterial. Its been a while.
Linkmeister
Whew. I was pretty sure that was a gone game after the top of the 9th. Two outfield errors! And why wasn’t Jansen backing up the plate on Matt’s throw home?
Anonymous
He was there.
Anonymous
agree
Anonymous
no error on Ethier which is the right call
Linkmeister
I’m talking about Puig’s mishandle of the bloop down the line and Kemp’s poor throw.
Anonymous
sorry
Anonymous
Jansen was backing up the plate, but he shifted over to back up the throw home from Kemp that was way off line.
Linkmeister
Ah, I missed that.
Anonymous
And then he had to run to cover home. I don’t know if there was any place he could have been to handle that throw.

foul tip
He obviously would cost more, but better the team focus on getting one C. Lee than Nolasco. Another top-of-the-rotation arm could be enough to put the team over the top, if this level of winning continues.
Beyond being way better, he has that postseason experience Ned so values.
Beyond prospect cost, Lee’s signed for a bunch of $$$. But what’s $$$ for the Guggenheimers?
Anonymous
Don’t believe that the fillies are ready to throw in the towel at this point and deal C. Lee, which would also imply unloading Rollins, Howard and Utley. But worth revisiting in about a month.
Anonymous
last season RHP Kendrick did significantly better vs RHP was 2010.
each of last 3 seasons it is slightly better to use RHH against him. otoh both Schmaker and Ethier have hit him well
Anonymous
Guerrier has been designated for assignment. Withrow is back up.
foul tip
Amazing. Simply amazing. Ned alone probably didn’t make this call.
Anonymous
Amazing or overdue? With the kind of money that Dodgers are playing with, talent drives roster spots, not contracts.
foul tip
Both. He wasn’t worth his contract. But in the past contracts at times seem to have gotten in the way of good roster management. If no longer so, great.
Anonymous
Odd. Guerrier has not been bad, blowout excluded. Is this another waivers situation, a la Cruz?
KT
Dodgers Lineup:
Schumaker 2B
Puig RF
Gonzalez 1B
Ramirez SS
Ethier LF
Kemp CF
AJ Ellis C
Hairston 3B
Fife P
john galt
Would rather see Punto instead of Schumaker. (Is it ‘ker’ or ‘cher’?) He really can’t play second base adequately.
Anonymous
you are correct on the fielding point but he has a 1.326 OPS against Kendrick in 21 PA
Anonymous
I’m not sure if is best that Gonzalez gets written in at 3 every game.
AJ is 174/259/246 since May 14; he should bat 8th
Anonymous
That’s a sustained period of weak offense. Maybe Gonzalez needs a Donnie day of rest as has been applied recently to Kemp and Ramirez.
foul tip
My thoughts exactly. However long SVS may be around, he’s an option to give AGon some rest. Bet some would help.
Anonymous
the stats are for A.J. Ellis; I was making 2 separate comments. Sorry for the confusion

On the post game show on the radio, Ellis was asked about this. He said that he accidentally gave Jansen extra signs, as he would do if there was a runner on second. Jansen was confused, asked to talk with Ellis, who shook him off when he (Ellis) realized what he had done.
Anonymous
Strange enough that I’ve never seen that, but if Vin’s never seen that, then wow.

THat’s all great, but my initial goal — my “waffle,” to use Jon’s vernacular from a few days ago — is reaching .500. That would mean the Dodgers have improved their own game, regardless of what anyone else is doing.
Of course, I’m not going to throw back gaining in the standings as well, especially the distance they’ve traveled in 9 days!
