What happens when three old friends in crisis fall into an unexpected love triangle? In The Catch, Maya, Henry and Daniel embark upon an emotional journey that forces them to confront unresolved pain, present-day traumas and powerful desires, leading them to question the very meaning of love and fulfillment. The Catch tells a tale of ordinary people seeking the extraordinary – or, if that’s asking too much, some damn peace of mind.

The Pirates are not content to sit around. They picked up Justin Morneau from the Twins. I would like to see the Pirates win the NL Central instead of the Cardinals just to see something new and not have the Pirates stay in the postseason last one day.
Jeffrey Thomas III
Seems like they’re all in.
WBBsAs
Morneau’s made something of a comeback after his concussion, and I’m glad to see that, but he’s still not the player he was before.
Jon Weisman
It says he has nine homers in August. Seems like a great pickup.
WBBsAs
I think he improves the Pirates, but I’m skeptical how much.
Linkmeister
The Pirates are an old franchise and one I’d love to see back in the playoffs. Last time the team was it was ’92 and a much skinnier Barry Bonds was their best player. They lost in the NLCS, their third consecutive loss after getting in.
Bob_Hendley
Other than Clayton, no one I’d rather see get the MVP that McCuthen. Quite a ballplayer.
ASW1
Agreed – McCutchen is one of those players like Hanley and Puig – you don’t leave your seat when he’s coming up – and a great CFer as well.
Bob_Hendley
Do they still wear those sleeveless getups?
btimmer
The Pirates don’t have any sleeveless uniforms, but on Sundays they wear 1971 throwbacks, which are sweet looking.

WBBsAs
They’re hideous. Baseball uniforms need belts and buttons.

Never though of marking my foul balls…We have gotten 10 so far but we use them for signatures from players
WinnipegDave
So, is that middle ball this game: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/LAN/LAN199909220.shtml ?
Even still you have a 80% winning percentage on foul ball games
WinnipegDave
You must have been wondering if you were ever going to get another ball again after 2001. Nearly 9 years.
Jon Weisman
Frankly, I don’t even remember the 2010 one – that took me by surprise when I was looking at these for the first time since, well, I guess 2010.
Jon Weisman
Here are the hitters for each:
1993 Pedro Astacio
1998: Eric Karros
1999: Raul Mondesi
2001: Craig Biggio (off Matt Herges)
2010: Russell Martin

Reminder today is a 6:10 start

Here’s how the shelves look now, after a good dusting.

I finally broke down and bought a 30 ball display case that mounts on the wall. I have 12 balls in it 3 are completely filled 1 has all coaches/ HOF’ers, another has about 8 signatures and the last 7 are single signature balls which is the way we are going to go from now on
Casey Barker
I love my Eric Gagne bobblehead. No Vin Scully bobblehead?
Jon Weisman
Sadly, no.
KT
My 1st bobble head was Gagne Used to have 4 of them but the wife let my then young daughter play with them…got Vnny this year
Bob_Hendley
Never been very close to a foul ball, and always poo pooed the wild scramble from afar, until last year when the Bums visited DC. As such, I couldn’t believe it when one actually came my way. Despite being a high popup, I wasn’t ready for it and was in disbelief as it came down. I quickly stood up, but it bounced off my fingers. It was off the bat of Jayson Werth.
Jon Weisman
I have never caught a foul ball on the fly.
Bob_Hendley
A scrambler, eh? Did I mention how much I admire them?
Bruce Siegel
Jon, I notice you wrote scores on all the balls (and that they’re all Dodgers victories) except for the Giants one. Did we lose that game? Or should there be a new stat in the Dodgers’ record books: on days when Jon Weisman has caught a foul ball, the Dodgers are 5 and 0.
I myself got only one foul ball in my life, but it was a humdinger: Shea Stadium, the day Jim Bunning pitched a perfect game against the Mets. Can’t tell you how odd it was to hear my fellow Mets fans (this is when I was living in NJ) root for the opposing pitcher in the last few at-bats.
scooplew
Father’s Day 1964?
Bruce Siegel
Is that right? It’s possible! Were you there?
scooplew
No, but I recall two friends of mine taking their father. Pretty sure it was Father’s Day.
scooplew
The only foul ball I have ever gotten at an MLB game was in ’64 off the bat of the Cards’ Charlie
James vs.Larry Miller of the Dodgers. I once got two in a California League in Salinas-
-in the same inning.
Bob_Hendley
Did you drop the one you had in your hand in order to catch the second one?
scooplew
You mean was it an Aesop’s fable moment? No,I think I gave one to a friend to hold.

Longtime Dodgers broadcaster Ross Porter will throw out a ceremonial first pitch tonight at Dodger Stadium
WBBsAs
Bring back Ross, dump Collins, Lyons and Steiner!
twaseverthus
Beggars can’t be choosers. Let’s start with Steiner, since he took Ross’s job (and also because he’s inept at it).

Mattingly said he talked with Matt Kemp about rehab: “He’s just not comfortable baseball-wise yet” Needs more ABs. Will DH tonight/tomorrow

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but for those with Time Warner – all three games @ Colorado Monday 1 pm, Tues 5:30 pm, and Wed. 5:30 pm are slated for CH 9.
dalegribel
Just one foul ball during the regular season. At Petco, Giants vs. Padres. Thanks Geoff Blum.
Did get one at Ho Ho Kam during spring training courtesy of Andre Dawson.

Pirates lead Cardinals 6-1 in the 3rd. Russell Martin with a 3-run homer. The Bucs are on target to top 2.1 million in attendance for the 2nd time in their history.
ASW1
Does anyone know what that thing Pirates fans do with their hands (putting their thumbs together with hands spread opposite directions) is supposed to mean?
btimmer
It’s a Z for Zoltan, a character in “Dude Where’s My Car?”
http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/sports/pirates/the-pirates-believe-in-the-power-of-zoltan-643203/
ASW1
Hmmm – ok – I would have never guessed that in a million years.

1/2 hour until game time…Let’s Go BLUE!!!!

Nice interview with Ross Porter on the Prime Ticket pregame show. Got excited for a minute when Jim Watson referred to him as “part of the FSW family”… but turns out he was just referring to the fact that he occasionally calls high school football games. Sigh.
