What happens when three old friends in crisis fall into an unexpected love triangle? In The Catch, Maya, Henry and Daniel embark upon an emotional journey that forces them to confront unresolved pain, present-day traumas and powerful desires, leading them to question the very meaning of love and fulfillment. The Catch tells a tale of ordinary people seeking the extraordinary – or, if that’s asking too much, some damn peace of mind.

At opening night of the LA Opera season last night I espied Peter O’Malley.
berkowit28
Hold on. Where were you when you saw O’Malley? I thought you lived in Australia or somewhere in east Asia? Was LA Opera opening on TV (???) or are you here in LA now?
Jack Dawkins
No, I live in LA area. grew up in Pasadena. So attended opera openign in person. Have subscribed for 27 years there now.
berkowit28
OK. But haven’t we discussed cricket in previous years? Or am I confusing you with someone else? If not, where did you get interested in cricket?
Jack Dawkins
Growing up, had a brit Ex pat living next door who would listen to the england Test matches on a short wave radio in his back yard. Through him I learned the game.
berkowit28
OK, makes sense. (Though it’s still highly unusual for an A,mericam with no other access to have enough interest from radion and a neighbour to learn thj e game.) This year I started subscribing to Willow TV, just 415/mo. I now can watch all international matches (all countries).
When I was in London in July, I went to the Royal Opera twice. I don’t usually get to LA Opera, living in Santa Barbara. Just once or twice. I have gone to Met Opera HD film viewings here.
berkowit28
Willow TV $15/mo. Sorry for all the typos.

I wondered when cricket would enter the conversation between you two :)

Not hurt, just being rested for playoff duty, or so Vinnie surmised.

For comic relief if nothing else, I vote Juan Uribe.

I would bet Greinke would jump at the chance
foul tip
What are the odds of seeing PH Zack Greinke at some point in the playoffs? From what I’ve seen, he’d do as well or better than some other options.
However it might work, that’d probably be a bit to cutting edge for DM.
TAFKA_Gagne55
I was sitting on the first base side today and caught the foul ball that Michael Young hit just before his game winning hit. It was my first foul ball ever.
KT
Was it a scramble or outright catch..I don’t remember?
Did you see me grab one off the field by the 3rd base camera well today…Tim and Skip also threw me two balls which I turned around and found the youngest Dodger fans around and gave it to them.
I try to do this every game…1st one is for my daughter the rest is to make some little boy or girls day
TAFKA_Gagne55
It was a little bit in between. It was a hard foul ball to a few rows in front of me. It bounced off the first people’s hands and went straight to me. Having been slowed down I could catch it (I didn’t bring a glove) but bobbled it and it rolled under the chair behind me. I immediately reached my arm back and grabbed it just in time. I didn’t see yours. It was really cool that you got all that stuff. I thought about seeing if I could go over and get Young to autograph the foul ball after the game, but I figured it was a long shot and we didn’t want to miss the 4:06 trolley.
PS- Sorry for taking so long to respond. San Diego to Thousand Oaks is a long drive.
KT
I remember it now…after young’s post game interview my daughter and I were standing right in front of him as some relatives were coming around to see him she asked while he was stand 2 feet in front of us and he said he wasn’t signing today…even after I told him we went to the same High school and my brother was 3 years ahead of him
First they wouldn’t have let you into the area where I was sitting…they had ushers making sure people who didn’t have tickets stayed out.
Be glad you didn’t waste your time

Sometimes you wonder what some writers are thinking, or if they are. Saw an item elsewhere that referred to the Dodgers’ failed former closers, Wilson and Marmol.
Wilson has never been a failure. Marmol struggled before being released by the Cubs this year, but he’s not a failure. Writer of that item needed more thought or at least more careful editing.
BTW, some stats for the two….Marmol, no runs across 16 of his last 17 outings, ERA in those 1.08. Not quite 17 IP in them, 23Ks but the customary high number of BBs, 15.
Wilson as a Dodger: 11.1 IP, 8 H, I ER, 3 BB, 10 Ks, ERA 0.97.
Wilson is a lock for postseason. Might even take Beli’s setup role.
No way Marmol should be left off in favor of League. There is a failed former closer for you.
BA against as Dodgers for both Wilson and Marmol barely above .200.
WBBsAs
Both League and Mármol are failed closers. Twitterboy 00 was shaky even during his best days as a Gnat.

Sunday is a bad day to go for autographs ( no batting practice, most players stayed in the dugout)
This is the booty from today’s game 3 game balls (actually gave two away to a couple of young dodger fans), CC signed my copy of his jersey and a ball, Chris Capuano, Stephen Fife, Steve Lyons,
besides these sigs only Kemp, Puig and Kenley signed but they were way down the line from us
Also Dre actually waved to my daughter from the dugout and made her day

Yeah, but that’s a nice problem to have — needing a win then means the World Series!

Although needing a win on Halloween night means that we are in game 7 of the World Series, so be careful in how you formulate your wishes!!

With the off day I’m bored, so I’m wondering who wins the NL MVP? Nobody seems to be running away with this by any stretch. Goldschmidt seems to have the best numbers, but is not on a playoff team. The players from the playoff teams (other than Kershaw of course), either have good, but not great, numbers, or have been injured for too much of the season (Hanley). I’m looking at Molina, McCutchen, Votto and Freeman and am not blown away by any of them this year. What do you guys think?
dalegribel
If you use the “Gibson” rule and go by where the team would be wiithout them, I think Hanley has to be in the discussion, despite injuries.

A dodgers.com story related how, since the Padres had had more success v Kershaw than anyone else this year–and there was time to implement changing his approach to them–the game plan for him last time out was to use his change more and work the whole plate.
Got really good results. Also gives potential playoff opponents something else to think about.
Also this from si.com on how prominent the change has become. Lemire says the most important–

Reads a bit high-horse, moralistic to me, but silly of the player, if true. That said, this response from Chad Moriyama – http://www.chadmoriyama.com/2013/09/the-official-dodgers-poolgate-peegate-player-odds/ – did make me laugh. Either way, I’m glad there’s another game tonight. Can we pleeease “get back to this one?”
KT
No wonder Matt Kemp doesn’t like him…I’m not going to pay
Jeffrey Thomas III
First off, I can’t say I really care whether they pee’d in the pool or not.
But I just question his reason for writing this. Other than clearing his conscience after piling on, which sure is his prerogative, what benefit is there to this story existing? All it has done is rekindle a non-controversy that was already fading away. If you look on twitter most of the people spreading this story and complimenting Tony are located in Arizona. On the program “Around the Horn” on ESPN they just mentioned the story as well, so I guess he’ll be getting some page views.

Jeffrey Thomas III
Tomorrow they face Bumgarner so maybe they wait til Thursday against Lincecum if he is doing better.
ASW1
So has Andre ever played in LF? With an OF of Puig, Kemp and Andre, who plays Left – Andre or Kemp?
TAFKA_Gagne55
Andre played in left field when he first came up and JD Drew was patrolling right. He moved to right field in 2008 to accommodate Juan Pierre’s move to left.
ASW1
Ah, good call – then Ethier slides over to LF, Kemp in Center, Puig in Right, Crawford off the bench.

He became 3.5 when we got Andruw and JP moved the LF. He later went to right when Kemp moved to CF.
