So that’s what it’s like to stare into the sun.

Clayton Kershaw lassoed the brilliant light of 191 previous Major League starts and unleashed it on a Colorado Rockies team that had no shield, no defense. And baseball fans around the world could only gaze in wonder.

Striking out a career-high 15 batters, Kershaw pitched his first career no-hitter — and of course, the second by a Dodger in less than a month — wiping out the Colorado Rockies, 8-0.

Kershaw had taken one previous no-hitter into the eighth inning, on May 17, 2009, before Cody Ross broke it up with a double.

Tonight’s was a perfect game before Hanley Ramirez’s throwing error to lead off the seventh inning. Undaunted, Kershaw retired the final nine Rockies, needing only one outstanding defensive play, a deep throw from back of third base by Miguel Rojas.

  1. Outstanding. I am kicking myself for not going out to the ball park tonight!

  2. OMG (I don’t say that very often but this game deserves it). What a beautiful thing to watch. This was no fluky no no. That was a good team he made look like little leaguers tonight. Won’t focus on the unfortunate error but Rojas helped save the no-no (and Ellis almost died trying to do the same in the ninth). Was so spectacular and moving to watch. If you were there in person I’m jealous! To have two no-nos in a month is amazing. I’d ask if we could stop the season now on this amazing high except for Dodgers still needing to catch the Giants. 4 games out. But tonight belongs to Kershaw, was was, well, basically perfect.

  3. Was it just me, or was A.J. Ellis very deliberate about where he “tossed” his mask before rushing to celebrate? #lessonlearned

    • I noticed that as well, he took a moment to toss his mask towards the dugout, so no one would step on it near Kershaw.

  4. Congrats to Clayton. I don’t think this will be his last no hitter. Congrats to Vin too. I hope this won’t be his last no hitter.
