With the official release of Brian Wilson today, preceded by recent acquisition Ryan Lavarnway being claimed on waivers by the Cubs and Kyle (that’s Kyle) Jensen being designated for assignment, the Dodger 40-man roster is back at, well, 40. But it’s not your slightly older sibling’s 40.
Let’s catch up on who’s new:
Pitchers (7): Mike Bolsinger, Chris Hatcher, Adam Liberatore, Brandon McCarthy, Juan Nicasio, Joel Peralta, Joe Wieland
Catchers (2): Austin Barnes, Yasmani Grandal
Infielders (3): Enrique Hernandez, Howie Kendrick, Jimmy Rollins
Outfielders (1): Chris Heisey
Those 13 players don’t include the three from within the organization who have been added to the 40-man since the 2014 season ended: Zach Lee, Chris Reed and Scott Schebler.
There are nine other players who had never appeared in a Major League game with the Dodgers before 2014: Pedro Baez, Daniel Coulombe, Carlos Frias, Yimi Garcia, Erisbel Arruebarrena, Darwin Barney, Alex Guerrero, Justin Turner and Joc Pederson,
Only 15 players, or 38 percent of the current 40-man roster, played a game for the Dodgers in 2013.
Pitchers (8): Zack Greinke, J.P. Howell, Kenley Jansen, Clayton Kershaw, Brandon League, Paco Rodriguez, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Chris Withrow
Catchers (1): A.J. Ellis
Infielders (2): Adrian Gonzalez, Juan Uribe
Outfielders (4): Carl Crawford, Andre Ethier, Yasiel Puig, Scott Van Slyke

I wonder if there’s still a chance to go after Max Scherzer.

Where is the Anderson kid?
Bullpen wise League still sticks out as the sore thumb. Maybe he’ll surprise us this year.

Why is Brett Anderson not on the 40?
Jon Weisman
Because the Dodgers haven’t announced he has signed with them.
