Here’s 20 minutes of Vin Scully talking to Roy Firestone in 1990 on ESPN’s “SportsLook,” which also includes an unforgettable clip of his Hall of Fame speech at Cooperstown.
Scully on the post-war Brooklyn Dodgers: “It was a team with nicknames that stuck to the ribs.”

Great stuff, Jon! The Vin’s comment about memory brings to mind a story that Lindsey Nelson told. When the power went out in the ballpark one night, he mentioned that Jerry Koosman might help because he had worked for the power company when he was going to school. When did Lindsey hear that? Nine years before at breakfast in spring training. He hadn’t prepared it for that game, but it popped out. And those things still pop out of Vin better than they ever have for and from anyone else. Also note that 25 years later, he hasn’t changed his comment about retiring: he still gets the goosebumps. And it looks and sounds to me like he’s still getting them.

Great interview.

Even though that interview took place 25 years ago, I felt that it just did.

Great interview Jon, thanks for sharing it. Do you have the first interview they did together? Roy mentions several times that this is the second of two interviews.

I realy think Allana Rizzo and the rest of the SPORTS Net crew need to stop introducing Vin as “Hall of Fame” broadcaster.” Although he did receive awards in 1982 and 1985 for Excellence in baseball broadcasting. he has not been enshrined in the hall, although many think he should be, people need to get their facts straight. I am among those who think he will eventually be inducted, but to this point not yet
