While Zack Greinke and Mike Bolsinger are set to go in this weekend’s remaining games against the Mets, Carlos Frias’ start Monday against Philadelphia is uncertain.

From Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

Frias has been dealing with lower back stiffness in his past two starts, lasting only five innings in both. Mattingly described the pain to be on the side of his lower back.

“Everything came out totally clean as far as structural problems, but that doesn’t mean he’s not still feeling something,” Mattingly said.

If Frias is unable to go Monday, Ian Thomas could be a fill-in, although Mattingly said that there have been no definite plans made as far as a potential replacement.

In the meantime, we’ve got Greinke vs. Matt Harvey tonight, followed by music and fireworks. Enjoy.

  1. Well, there is one option that would be both fun, and interesting. De Leon. He goes tonight and has excelled every time he’s gone up. Get him on his way earlier and in for tomorrow.

  2. I did some tracking of Kershaw’s and Greinke’s ERAs off a comment from another Dodger blog (Elysian Fields) that Greinke’s 1.48 season ERA meant he was pitching like Kershaw. So, I decided to see how true that was and look at how often the two pitchers finished a mlb game (almost always mlb start but not exclusively) with an era 1.50 or lower.

For Kershaw’s 228 games he has pitched in his ERA has been 1.50 or lower 12 times (5.26%):
2009 April 15th – 1.50 (his second game of the season)
2011 March 31 – 0.00 (first game of the season)
2011 April 11 – 1.37 (third game of the season)
2012 April 5 – 0.00 (first game of the season)
2012 April 10 – 0.90 (second game of the season)
2013 April 1 – 0.00 (first game of the season)
2013 April 6 – 0.00 (second game of the season)
2013 April 12 – 1.16 (third game of the season)
2013 May 14 – 1.40 (ninth game of the season)
2013 May 20 – 1.35 (tenth game of the season)
2014 March 22 – 1.35 (first game of the season)
2014 May 6 – 0.66 (second game of the season)

Greinke has pitched in 349 games and has been at 1.50 or lower 32 times (9.17%):
    2005 – 2 times in April (1st and 2nd start)
2006 – 1 time in Sept (first start for him)
    2007 – 2 in April (1st and 2nd start)
2008 – 5 times in April, 1 in May (his first 6 starts)
    2009 – 5 times in April, 6 in May (first 11 starts)
    2010 – 1 time in April (1st start)
    2012 – 1 time in April (1st start)
    2013 – 2 times in April (1st and 2nd start)
2015 – 3 times in April, 2 times in May, 1 in July (starts 1,2,4,9,10,17)

  3. I also tracked Kershaw’s ERA range for each season.

I went year: lowest era point – highest era point (final era)
    2008: 3.00-5.59 (4.26)
    2009: 1.50-7.29 (2.79) [7.29 was after a April 26 outing in Colorado]
    2010: 2.85-5.79 (2.91)
    2011: 0.00-3.52 (2.28)
    2012: 0.00-3.14 (2.53)
2013: 0.00-2.14 (1.83) [What consistency, his highest era at any point was 2.14!]
    2014: 0.66-4.43 (1.77) [4.43 was after a May 17 outing in Arizona]
    2015: 3.08-5.84 (3.08) [through July 3 and his first 17 starts]

  4. Coulombe called up. Another pen game on Monday?
