Rather than choose between Kiké Hernandez and Joc Pederson for the outfield, the Dodgers have gone with both.
Hernandez will be in left field with Pederson in center for Los Angeles in Game 5 of the National League Division Series against the Mets.
Carl Crawford, who went 1 for 11 with a stolen base while starting the first three games of the NLDS but did not play in Game 4, will begin tonight’s game on the bench.
Four times this year, the Dodgers started Hernandez in left field with Pederson in center, and they won three of those, including a 7-2 victory July 24 at New York against Mets lefty Jon Niese. Los Angeles also beat Colorado on May 10 with Pederson in center and Hernandez in right.
Another nod to defense for the Dodgers is that Yasmani Grandal is starting at catcher over A.J. Ellis. Considered a “50-50” chance of starting by Don Mattingly on Wednesday, Grandal is struggling with an ailing shoulder that has been affecting his hitting, though not his work behind the plate.
The Mets lineup is the same as it was for Game 2 against Zack Greinke, with the exception of Wilmer Flores at shortstop in place of the injured Ruben Tejada.

Seems to be the same basic lineup Collins has used all series, while this is another time that Mattingly is using a lineup for the first time in the season. Just a fascinating demonstration of contrasts and flexibilities.
