One year ago, the Dodgers and R/GA debuted Dodgers Accelerator (@DodgersAccel on Twitter), an incubator for sports business and technology development, with 10 businesses ultimately presenting their work at a Dodger Stadium event in November. Partnership deals and capital raises for participants followed.
Today, applications are now open for the second year of Dodgers Accelerator action.
“The overwhelming success of the Dodgers’ first sports and entertainment accelerator opened our eyes to the profound impact that today’s rising technology companies can have on sports,” Dodger president and CEO Stan Kasten said. “We’re committed to bringing the best new experiences to our fans, and the best new technologies to our team. We also are excited to use the Dodger brand and our organizational reach to help these young companies grow.”
Five to seven startups will be selected for in-depth engagement with Dodger leadership, business units and industry networking, as well as R/GA’s strategic marketing (learn more about it from here), branding, design and technology services. “The ingenuity that the Dodgers and R/GA witnessed in the 10 companies selected to participate in the first accelerator has made our decision to continue the program an easy one,” Dodger chief financial officer Tucker Kain said. “The response we received for our first class from across the sports and technology industry was a strong validation of the value of the program, and we look forward to continuing this momentum with the next class.”
Program areas of interest include fan engagement, virtual reality and augmented reality, eSports, sports training, smart arenas, big data and analytics, fitness and youth sports, and sponsor integration. Applications will be accepted through June 10, with the program beginning August 22 in Los Angeles. For more information, visit dodgersaccelerator.com.
