In another Deadline Day move, the Dodgers acquired right-handed reliever Josh Fields from the Astros for minor-league first baseman Yordan Alvarez.
To make room Fields on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers moved Hyun-Jin Ryu to the 60-day disabled list. If healthy, Ryu is eligible to come off the disabled list after the first week of September.
Fields, who turns 31 on August 19, has a career 4.53 ERA in 150 MLB innings with a 1.26 WHIP and 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings. With Triple-A Fresno this season, Fields has a 1.65 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 10.5 K/9. He was selected in the first round of 2008 draft (20th overall) by Seattle.
A different Josh Fields OPSed .880 in 133 games for Triple-A Albuquerque in the Dodgers’ farm system in 2012.
The 19-year-old Alvarez was signed by the Dodgers as an amateur free agent on June 15 out of Las Tunas, Cuba.

Another piece of a very mediocre and undistinguished collection. At least we won’t see Casey Fien being hit – he can see Josh Fields or Jesse Chavez. Then, there is the injured pitcher that Friedman and Zahdi are so fond of . . . we they ever acquire starting pitchers who aren’t hurt?

Of that list, I am particularly fond of Clayton Kershaw, Zach Greinke, Felix Hernandez, Yu Darvish, Stephan Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann, Matt Harvey, Sonny Gray, and Gerrit Cole.
