Here’s some unexpected bullpen news: Matt Guerrier has gone onto the 15-day disabled list with right elbow tendinitis, retroactive to April 19, the Dodgers announced today.
The team has recalled lefty Michael Antonini from Triple-A Albuquerque. Antonini, who came to the Dodgers in exchange for Chin-Lung Hu in December 2010, would be making his major-league debut. He has a 4.26 ERA with 15 strikeouts against 24 baserunners in 19 innings with Albuquerque this season. In 2011, he had a 4.01 ERA with 8.0 strikeouts per nine innings for Double-A Chattanooga.
Update: More disabled list news comes from the Isotopes, who have placed Alex Castellanos on the sidelines with a left hamstring strain.

So why do you think Antonini over Shawn Tolleson?
Jon Weisman
Maybe didn’t want to add someone new to the 40-man roster just now.

I suspect that’s the same reason that Christopher Jackson’s prediction of Scott Rice as the first call-up of the season didn’t pan out.
.
I DO think it’s interesting that they call up someone who was a starter in the minors to immediately be a reliever in the bigs, rather than call up someone who was already relieving and accustomed to pitching an inning every day or two, like Tolleson or Rice.

Perhaps there’s still concern about Billingsley’s groin.

Maybe, but if it’s to cover a possible start, you would think Eovaldi would have gotten the callup.

Who knows, maybe Antonini will “Blow Up” in the major leagues. That is if his Zabriskie release Point doesn’t fail him. ;)

>> There’s only one logical assumption, and that’s another conveniently timed injury will befall a Dodger reliever, perhaps one whose initials are the same as Mickey Mantle’s.
.
Did you HAVE to write that in the previous article, about MacDougal? :)
.
I would assume that Guerrier to the DL means that Antonini would now be the first one to go back down, before considering Lindblom or MacDougal.
Jon Weisman
I’d assume the same. I’m not convinced we’ll see Antonini in a game. Depends on the situations …

Are they “phasing out” Mr. Elbert?
Jon Weisman
I don’t believe so.
