Kiké Hernández has been placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 28) with left rib cage inflammation by the Dodgers, who also transferred Alex Wood from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
Tonight’s starting pitcher, Brock Stewart, will take their spots on the active and 40-man rosters.
Hernández has a .280 on-base percentage and .346 slugging percentage (including five homers) in 143 plate appearances this season. He has played every position except pitcher, catcher and first base.
Wood was placed on the disabled list with left posterior elbow soreness on May 31, so the latest move guarantees he will be sidelined until the end of July — the anniversary of his acquisition by the Dodgers. The 25-year-old has a 3.99 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 56 1/3 innings this season, including 41 strikeouts in 28 1/3 May innings.

I was thinking Kike had a chance to optioned after it looks like Taylor could do as well, if not better, and is certainly faster, guess DL’ing does the same thing, except to recall him a bit earlier if optioned if need be.

Thing with Baez is he’s inconsistent. Looks great one game, and pathetic the next. He can be optioned, but probably no one better to bring up as far a reliever. As good as the pen has been, there still is no one reliable enough to give the permanent 8th inning (and even the 7th inning) to. To be honest, this is Doc’s strength so far in how he has mixed and matched. Granted it doesn’t work out every time.

Frias and/or Bolsinger could do a better job relieving than that stinkin’ Baez. Every time he gets called up to pitch, I get hives…shades of Ronald Bellisario…eeeek.

Bolsinger doesn’t have the swing and miss stuff Baez has, maybe Frias, however both these guys are starters, and unfortunately still may be needed there. Urias will probably be shut down after another start or two, and who knows about Kershaw at the moment.
