As expected, Brandon McCarthy has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Dodgers with right hip stiffness. Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reported on the likelihood of this Saturday.
Less expected is the news that reliever Josh Ravin will be joining McCarthy on the DL, because of right triceps soreness. Ravin walked two, threw a wild pitch and struck out one in 2/3 of an inning Saturday.
Those moves make room for the activation of Brett Anderson from the 60-day disabled list for today’s start, as well as the recall of Brock Stewart from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Stewart has appeared in one minor-league game since being optioned August 4, throwing three innings of one-hit, shutout ball August 9 with four strikeouts. He gives the Dodgers an extra long relief option today behind Anderson, who is making his 2016 big-league debut.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Anderson, outfielder Zach Walters was designated for assignment. Walters has a .326 on-base percentage and .444 slugging percentage for Oklahoma City this year, and went 0 for 5 for the Dodgers in three games.
Bud Norris (mild mid-back strain) made his first rehab start for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday, allowing one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings (59 pitches).
