Still waiting for one of these root beers to have a gram (or even a fraction of one) of fat.

Right now, reading about root beers seems far more preferable than reading about the Dodgers. Think I’ll go drink one.

It’s fiendishly clever, too, recreating Evelyn Waugh’s banana story to give the next generation of Weisman scribes materiel. “Pops poured me a glass of sickly-blue skim milk, then sank into his recliner with his fifth artisanal root beer. He said he was reviewing them for his blog, so he couldn’t possibly share.”

  4. I’m keeping my eye out for a couple favorites, but I mostly agree with you thus far, Jon. I will say that Bulldog doesn’t finish quite as well as I was hoping, but that may have been the sugar more thsn the drink specifically that started to wear thin.

Tink – Here’s what one Texas Rangers blogger said about the prospects in the Ryan Dempster trade: “My initial reaction is that this is a significantly weaker package than I would have expected the Rangers to have to part with for Dempster, although Villanueva and Hendricks are both nice prospects.” … “While Hendricks and Villanueva are both nice prospects, I don’t think either would be considered to be among the Rangers’ top prospects, and they aren’t huge ceiling guys. … Both guys were more part of the Rangers’ prospect depth than they were elite types, and I’m pleasantly surprised that this was the extent of what the Rangers parted with to land Dempster.”

hope you saw my comment that the Dodgers could not match this pair of players without including Gould plus a hitter except we don’t have a young hitter

With some help from Barry Z, we’ll be a half game back in 18 hours.  Funny how that goes.

  7. Philly is the “birthplace of Root Beer”, it was invented by Charles Hires and introduced at the Centennial Exposition.

I imagine that you don’t get Hank’s out on the West Coast, but if you ever find it, it’s worth a taste.

Root beer is one of those drinks that when I see somebody else drinking it or buying it from a soda machine, I think to myself, “what a great idea” and instinctively get one as well.

My folks had an never-ending debate about pronunciation that usually boiled down to east coast v. west coast.  My mother, born and bred in Brooklyn, said root rhymes with shoot, so it should be pronounced rooot beer  My father, an Oregonian, said root rhymes with foot, so it should be pronounced ruht beer.

    Your take?

    •  My dad, from Chicago, rhymes it with foot.  I, from Los Angeeles, rhyme it with shoot.

I also go with the “east” coast pronunciation (shoot). Concieved in MA, born in CA to east coast parents

I don’t know whether this (somewhat old) link was shared here before, but I think some of you may find it interesting. It’s a profile on Kim Ng (I got the link from Tango Tiger’s website, not from being a regular reader of Marie Claire–not that there’s anything wrong with that).

Btw, Mark Saxon is now doing both Dodger and Angel daily blogs over at ESPNLA. So what’s up with that other than it sucks that he seems somewhat totally overwhelmed?

Is there an official Dodger Thoughts policy on Olympics spoilers?
