What is it this year about turning the opposing pitchers into power hitters? Maybe he’ll run out of steam on the basepath.

  21. KT

    Get someone up….Lilly is tiring

  22. Anonymous

Looks like Ted’s reached his limit.

  23. KT

    Phones aren’t working

  24. Looks like Lilly was cruising, then I come home and turn on the TV and it starts to fall apart…

Soo glad to be wrong! — Great start for Ted!

  29. foul tip

When Lilly told the Dodgers he was ready to pitch, he seems to have been right…at least tonight.

  30. That looked out!

Edit: Yup. Kemp’s first home run! Off Matt Harvey no less!

  31. Anonymous

    BISON!!!!! . . . Shoot, Steinered!!!

  32. Anonymous

Gameday makes Kemp’s HR look like it’s 500 feet long…

  33. Anonymous

Matty Kemp! So happy for him!

  34. Anonymous

    Let’s hear it for replay!

  35. Anonymous

And now that that first one is out of the way, let’s hope that Matt replays the HR trot MANY times the rest of the season!

  36. KT

    Come on Double Play

  37. Anonymous

    Okay, Howell. Settle down.

  38. Anonymous

Biggest thing is to get Harvey out of there and get to the bullpen.

  39. KT

Kemp HR means Fernando Valenzuela remains only pitcher since 1960 win first 5 starts with at least 7 IP, 1 R or none

  40. Anonymous

    Never easy with this crew…

  41. Gameday called Kemp’s HR immediately, but then in the video it shows the umps had to go look at the tape. Huh.

  42. Anonymous

    Not Howell’s night.

  43. KT

Come on Belli be like yesterday

  44. Anonymous

    Get the K, Belli!

  45. KT

Way to get out of it Belli with little harm done

  46. Anonymous

A win’s a win, but it would be great if Lilly can get the W.

  47. KT

    Come on Belli, Hold them

  48. KT

    1 more Belli

  49. KT

    Good K Belli

  50. That was absolutely filthy.

  51. KT

    Good outing by Belli

  52. Anonymous

2nd good outing by Belli . . . a great return by Lilly . . . and Matt finally went yard . . . a good game regardless, but let’s get the win!

  53. KT

Come on Kenley shut them down

  54. KT

Liked this stat by ESPN on Twitter: Matt Kemp is the first player with at least 3 RBI in a game against Matt Harvey

  55. KT

    That’s 1 Kenley…2 more

  56. KT

Thought Carl had a shot at that one

  57. KT

    Great Play Mellis

  58. KT

    Good Job Kenley, Leagues turn

  59. KT

  65. Anonymous

    JERRY!!!

  66. KT

    Need to score this inning

  67. Anonymous

Someone has to tell the hitters they’re facing the weakest bullpen.

  68. KT

    Good job AJ

  69. KT

    Clayton hitting/bunting

  70. KT

    Nice Job Clayton

  71. Anonymous

Carl is slumping the last few games.

  72. I have a lousy feeling about this. Our bullpen gets weaker as the game gets longer.

  73. Hey this guy is hitting .164… let’s walk him on four pitches.

  74. Anonymous

    and that is that

  75. Anonymous

    Well, that was pretty definitive.

  76. Anonymous

A League with the blown . . . then they hit the Wall.
Meanwhile, the offense goes back into hibernation.
BUT . . . Lilly, Belli, and Matt!

  77. To get to Harvey and be one out away from a win only to lose like that, is disappointing to say the least.

    • Anonymous

When it’s lost by the bullpen, it’s such a reminder it’s a team game.

  78. Guest

Like the Padres, the Mets look better against The Evil Empire West than they do on paper.

    • Anonymous

Unfortunately, that IS a talent the Dodgers have.
But hopefully they can get rid of that trait.

I need me a Jon Weisman thoughtful, engaging postmortem NPUT perspective to put into words how i feel about this one.

The minute Lyons started going on and on in the 8th about how Dodger fans could relax with a one run lead because of our bullpen, I figured it was just a matter of time. Superstitious? I think not!

Fantastic game. Lilly was great, so it makes me feel good about his prospects: a 1-2-3 first inning and his tough situations in innings 2-4 were all 2 out scenarios, so likely to remain harmless (as they did). And when he got into a jam in the fifth, against the heart of the order, he competed and got out pretty unscathed.

Kemp broke the seal on the HR, and had 3 RBI, and all off a pitcher who is really cruising this year. It’s starting to feel like the old Matt Kemp is back (or at least will be soon), and with Hanley almost ready, the whole offense should start clicking. We did not leave many runners on base, so that’s a nice change. Good showing by Belli, and the bullpen was great in the first 8 2/3 innings. I turned it off with two outs in the ninth, and THAT is how I choose to remember this game.

It ended after 8 2/3 innings. Do not try to tell me otherwise.
